Jabs
Injections - none are compulsory but the recommended ones are Hep A ( if you have a booster within a year of the initial one you will be covered for 20 years ) Tetanus, Diphtheria, Polio and Typhoid. Personally mine are all up to date as do not want to risk anything where my health is concerned - also your insurance could be invalidate if you do not have them and it could prove costly health and pocket wise! Insurance
Insurance - is a must. When shopping around make sure that the European cover includes Egypt as some do and some dont and they class it as Africa on a more expensive Worldwide cover. If you have a Natwest Advantage Gold Account you automatically get free family annual Worldwide cover. Call into your local branch for the telephone number to call and they will send you the policy. Check your policy as alot will exclude motorised sports such as quads and this could be costly to you in the event of an accident. Check the company you are arranging the quad trip has adequate insurance - ask to see it and if they dont show you it then they havent got any and walk away. Some companies also do a policy similar to a backpackers policy where you can stay up to 18 months and will be covered. These are quite cheap.

Pharoahs revenge
Alot of travellers suffer from this. Personally I dont think it is to do with the food. Avoid sitting in the sun and then gulping down a really cold drink as this will affect the system. After sitting in the heat avoid going into a freezing air con room as this will have the same effect. You can buy Antinal cheaply but again they will try and rip you off. Dont pay more than 10le for a pack. Nothing that you bring from the UK will work to clear this up is Antinal is a must. The money is truly filthy and full of bugs and germs. We always take anti bacterial hand gel where no soap and water is needed and use this all the time especially after handling the money. In all our visits we have stuck to these pointers and have never been ill. The sun is very severe. Apply lots of high factor sun cream, wear a hat and drink plenty of water avoiding fizzy drinks and alcohol in the sun. Ensure the childrens shoulders are also covered. Drink only bottled water as the tap water is highly chlorinated. It is safe to drink it but only if you are used to it.

Mossies
Mossies - there are loads of them so take plenty of repellent - one with deet is effective. Some say eating marmite wards them off. Avon Skin So soft is very good.

Pharmacies
There are lots of chemists in Sharm and most are open 24 hours.
Egyptian pharmacists are well trained and dispense a wide range of drugs, including many normally on prescription in Europe. If they feel you need a full diagnosis, they can usually recommend a doctor. Most hotels have a doctor available 24 hours a day.

All four of our party suffered the dreaded Pharaos Revenge so we went to the Hotel Pharmacy for Antinal but he wanted to charge £28! We took a trip into Sharm Old Market where the first quote from the Pharmacist was £10, we bargained and eventually got a pack for £2! That is serious discounting eh?

Hi Tony - yes they will try and rip you off. The pharmacy in Naama - on the road where all the shisha cafes are charged 10le for a pack and Darren said the one in Nabq charged 8 with rehydration tablets.

The pharmacy on El Khan has now moved from the back right to the front of the shopping parade,
They scan everything and it's really cheap,
Antinal - 5 Egyptian - 60 pence ??
You also get the feeling that everything is the genuine artical and they are very helpful.

Hi Elaine its too far from us. Better and cheaper going to the one above. Il Mercato is a shopping mall in Hadaba a good 25 mins drive other side of Naama - next to Alf Lela. http://www.sharm.org/ilmercato.htmIt did have its own website but like most things has disappeared.

Can you offer some more background information on your situation? What is your nationality? Visa status? What kind of work are you doing? Is this a legal job? Have you called the Bureau of National Health Insurance to complain?
