THE STAY IN SHARM TEAM REVIEW
Well in the interest of our viewers and for medical science and never one to pass up a freebie! My girlfriend, Debbie, and I, were given an opportunity to try out this excursion. Now I am more of a "where's the pool bar" sort of man and Debbie a is a "if this ruins my hair your dead" sort of woman and neither of us had ever ridden a quad or had any interest in doing so, and would have normally given this sort of outing a miss if we were on holiday. We met Hany and our guide, Ahmed, pictured below, down the beach at 10am and were expertly instructed on how to ride the quad, this only took a few minutes as they are so easy to ride! Accelerate with your thumb and brakes like you find on the handlebars of any bicycle! no gears, clutch etc to deal with, it really was idiot proof! (well it had to be for us to do it!)
So off we set from the beach and Ahmed always had safety in mind, he was constantly signalling us to slow down, stop, speed up and always checking to see if we were ok as he guided us from the beach to the desert road. It was at this point the trip became something special because for the life of me, I cannot tell you when the road ended and the desert began because in seconds all you can see is sand and the beautiful Sinai mountains, breathtaking scenes, and the real world had just disappeared!
We made our way over bumps in the sand, uphill, downhill, literally all over the place! This was not just a case of driving from A to B, he made the route a thrill ride in itself and I'm so glad that Ahmed knew his way round because there are no signposts and one mountain tends to look like the other when your zig zagging your way through them! We stopped a couple of times to take some photo's and admire the views and then we set off for the bedouin camp for tea.
After a refreshing cup of bedouin tea we saddled up and headed deeper into the mountains as Ahmed had told us he had something to show us. After about ten minutes we had made our way into a valley of sand and we came to a halt. He said we had stopped here because this was a magical place where miracles can happen! We got off the bikes, stood together and after a count of three, shouted our names at the mountain to here it echo all around us! Not much of a miracle I thought more of just an echo really, then he turned us around and we saw the pictures below! Two natural channels in the mountain with black granite rock and a solo green tree, yes it really is a tree! How it grows, out of a mountain, no water, well I held my hands up and thought yes that is a miracle!
We climbed some way up the channels and admired the views and took more photos then it was time to head off back to camp.
This was the best two hours entertainment we had had and would have no hesitation in recommending this to anyone. the trip is suitable for all ages but there are a few thing I would advise:
Sunglasses are a must, its dusty out there!
Drinks can be bought at the base camp, but take a bottle of water with you for the journey!
and last but not least, if you cannot wear long trousers, put some very high factor suncream on your knees!
I didn't, and they glowed in the dark for about three days!
